“When Doves Cry” is the hit single from Prince off of his 1984 multi-platinum selling album “Purple Rain.” It was Prince’s first American single topping the Billboard charts for a full 5 weeks! Since Prince removed most of his videos from Youtube, it is difficult to find the official video for this song, but thanks to the publishers over at Youku…we have it for you today. Watch and listen to When Doves Cry by Prince above.

Lyrics

Dig if you will the picture

Of you and I engaged in a kiss

The sweat of your body covers me

Can you, my darling?

Can you picture this?

Dream if you can a courtyard

An ocean of violets in bloom

Animals strike curious poses

They feel the heat

The heat between me and you

[Hook]
How can you just leave me standing
Alone in a world that’s so cold?
Maybe I’m just too demanding
Maybe I’m just like my father: too bold
Maybe you’re just like my mother
She’s never satisfied
Why do we scream at each other?
This is what it sounds like
When doves cry

[Verse 2]
Touch if you will my stomach
Feel how it trembles inside
You’ve got the butterflies all tied up
Don’t make me chase you
Even doves have pride

[Hook]

Darling don’t cry

  1. Thank you so much for posting this video! I’ve been trying to search for it everywhere but it’s been removed. Even YouTube doesn’t have it. I dislike the other song covers of When Doves Cry and I’m glad that I’ve been able to find the official music video and song on this site!
